Stine Carriage House
Monticello, Illinois

The rural subdivision location for this residence with its south and creek facing slope suggested a design largely oriented to the views with passive solar benefits.

As part of an overall restoration/rejuvenation of their historic Queen Anne residence, the owners wanted to add a compatible garage with workshop space and a walk-up second floor for future expansion.

The resulting free standing Carriage House maximizes the use of its very limited site while creating a courtyard dialogue with the Main House. Materials and details of the existing House were incorporated into the new structure. The restoration of the bowed and bell flange gables on the Main House corresponded to the construction of the Carriage House.
