Huisinga Residence
Monticello, Illinois
The exurban site for this residence is distinguished by its trees, a mature mixed hardwood grove, and a gentle south facing slope to a small creek.
The residence, designed for an active family of five, takes advantage of the expansive setting with a strong massive form set back from the road and into the trees. The private side is then more animated and open to capitalize on views and solar orientation.
Site development included the initial construction of a large outbuilding, which was customized to sympathize with the main house that followed.
