Piatt County Courthouse Renovation
Monticello, Illinois
The landmark 1903 Piatt County Courthouse was earmarked for a major renovation to coincide with its centennial anniversary.
When charged with updating the building to function as a modern facility well into its second century, great care was necessary to preserve the integrity of the historic structure while updating all mechanical, electrical and communications systems as well as providing handicapped accessibility throughout.
A restored copper dome and a new entrance ramp along with masonry restoration highlighted the exterior improvements. The dome, which had been removed and replaced with a shingled cupola following World War II, was researched and replicated, thereby returning this community focal point to its original splendor.
