Hutson Residence
Champaign, Illinois
This residence, while designed for a typical residential subdivision lot, reacts to its central Illinois surroundings and its immediate site forces.
The simple rural farmhouse vernacular is adapted here for suburban use, with a strong form running east-west to maximize solar orientation. The complementary form of the garage bisects the main house dividing it into two south facing blocks, one formal and one informal, and both containing traditional porches.
Simple shed dormers add to the usability of the second floor while maintaining the low profile of the design.
