First State Bank of Monticello
Drive-up Facility

Monticello, Illinois

When faced with the decision of whether to add to existing facilities with a new drive-up banking facility or to construct a totally new stand alone building, the bank elected to tie-in to the existing main bank for ease of staffing. A by-product of this decision was the opportunity to enhance the image of the overall complex and to develop a strong presence on an adjacent state highway.

An architectural vocabulary was developed in order to be compatible with the existing colonial vernacular main building while simultaneously projecting a more modern and progressive banking image. Forms allude to the historic pedestrian context of downtown Monticello and are translated for current vehicular needs.
