File Residence
White Heath, Illinois

This house reacts to it's rolling 5-acre site in a rural subdivision by capitalizing on the nearly 360 degree views while still giving careful consideration to natural light and passive solar orientation.

The living space of the house is flexible, with the main floor capable of working alone or in harmony with the upper and lower levels, depending on the changing programmatic needs of extended family. Primary spaces are open-plan, increasing the feeling of spaciousness, yet moreover, contributing to the borrowing of views and daylight. Natural woodwork and extensive built-ins lend a warmth and continuity throughout the interior.

Exterior materials are traditional, with a hierarchy of brick and cedar lap and cedar shingle sidings tied together by the abundant use of fenestration and architectural detailing.
