Dewitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department
Monticello, Illinois

The Dewitt-Piatt Bi-County Public Health District serves a two county area and has facilities in both Clinton and Monticello, Illinois.  Due to expanding services including clinic examinations/immunizations, dental treatment, education and public health administration, the Clinton facility was no longer adequate.  After securing a new building site and USDA financing, the Public Health District enlisted Kennedy Hutson Associates as the architect for a new 7,700 sf clinic and administration building.

The recently completed Dewitt-Piatt Bi-County Public Health Center was designed to accommodate growth well into the future.  The building provides separate, secured areas for clinic functions, dental treatments, educational outreach and inspectors/administrators.  A pull-in garage can accommodate training as well.

A sustainable approach was key in the generation of the design, with passive solar orientation, natural daylighting and ventilation for all offices, "Suntunnel" daylighting for interior corridors, a geo-thermal mechanical system and renewable exterior materials all being utilized.  The resulting building is economical to operate and virtually maintenance free.  Appropriately the Public Health Center is itself healthy to inhabit.
