Livingston Center
Monticello, Illinois

When a long standing local business decided to close its doors and dispose of its varied real estate holdings, an historic lumber yard building adjacent to the City of Monticello's City Building became available.  Showing great foresight, the City committed to the purchase and renovation of the building to house badly needed spaces for a multiplicity of public and semi-public purposes.

Kennedy Hutson Associates worked with the City of Monticello to maintain and highlight the historic integrity of the building while bringing the structure up to modern standards.  Spaces were created for a Senior Center, Monticello Main Street and the Monticello Arts Council in addition to the creation of a public lobby, handicapped restrooms and a large multi-purpose space suitable for meetings, workshops and events.  Energy efficiency and sustainability goals were accomplished with radiant floor heating, increased insulation and natural daylighting.

The Livingston Center's utilization has grown steadily since its recent completion and this once largely vacant building is now a vital resource for the community.  Additionally, the renovation of the Livingston Center demonstrates the City of Monticello's commitment to its Downtown and its historic architectural resources.
