Piatt Residence
Monticello, Illinois

Built on rural acreage along a low river bluff, this house was sited near the rear of the property to take advantage of views up and down the river as well as to create a focal point for an ancient grove of oak trees.

The strong form and simple use of materials lends the modestly scaled house ample presence to complement it’s natural surroundings while the blurring of the building perimeter, utilizing both interior and exterior spaces, helps create a seamless transition between the house and environment.

Exterior materials are natural and the simple contrasting palette is carried into the open plan interior spaces where natural wood and stone help to maintain the continuity between house and site.
